GETTING YOUR TAPES OUT OF THE CLOSET

Do you have videotapes that need preserving? Are there moments in your community history on tapes you can no longer access? In an effort to preserve the content trapped on this fragile format, RCMA offers a FREE analog to digital conversion service. From political demonstrations and parades, to DIY documentaries and home movies, we are here to help you save those long-forgotten tapes before it is too late!

RCMA partners with libraries, community centers, and other organizations to offer videotape digitization at no cost to the filmmaker/contributor and at a location that is convenient to them. Format transfer is performed in real-time while recording an oral history that helps contextualize the video for future generations. All contributors will receive a free hard drive containing their newly digitized video.

RCMA welcomes any videotape, made by anyone. However, priority is given to videos that somehow relate to LGBTQ+ history and culture, whether they were filmed by a LGBTQ+ identified person OR in some way feature an LGBTQ+ identified person or event. If someone's video does not meet this exact description, they will not be turned away.
