This Spring, RCMA is partnering with the Mid-Continent Public library (MCPL) to offer a FREE video digitization service. From home movies and amateur films to political demonstrations and parades, we are searching for a picture of what life was like in the Midwest between 1977 and 2007. In order to preserve these long-forgotten memories, we need community contributions from folks like you before it is too late!

How to Contribute

  1. Complete this online eligibility questionnaire/appointment booking form

    OR

Arrange an appointment at a convenient MCPL branch location over the phone by calling Kendell at (816) 785-5131

  2. After receiving a confirmation notice, bring your tape(s) and any person(s) with knowledge about the footage to your scheduled appointment.

  3. Provide live audio commentary and background information about who/what/where the video is about during the transfer process.

  4. Receive a FREE digital copy of your video and identify the future resting place for your original videotape cassette.

RCMA welcomes any videotape, made by anyone. However, RCMA is especially interested in videos that somehow relate to LGBTQ+ history and culture, whether they were filmed by an LGBTQ+ identified person OR in some way feature an LGBTQ+ identified person or event. Priority will be given to preserving such tapes. If someone's video does not meet this exact description, they will not be turned away.
